For the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic, we recommend all instruction be virtual, subject to relevant public health authorities and the guidelines they post. We also know that teaching an instrument remotely can present unique challenges, but that many music teachers have successfully adapted. It is possible and we're here to help!

What will I need to start learning? You'll need an instrument, a web-enabled device like a laptop or tablet, and a stable internet connection. The teacher will likely also recommend some music and/or beginning instructional materials.

What can I expect when I start lessons? Your teacher will be your best resource here. Talking with them about what to expect as well as what goals you might have is a great place to start for both teacher and student. But for reference, many students start with weekly lessons of 30 to 45 minutes. You should also plan some time to practice every day between lessons--even a little every day will help you make progress toward your goals!

Sophia is a first-year master's student at the Royal Conservatoire in Glasgow and currently studies piano performance with Aaron Shorr.
